For our part this circular pastry not only represents a wheel but also the Midnight Sun!

Sightseeing in and around Umeå
If you would like to explore the landscape round Umeå on your own and don’t mind a couple of kilometres of gravel we suggest you visit the rapids below the Stornorrfors hydroelectric power station and check the fish ladder there. Bring walking shoes as the gravel road up from the river is steep.
Here at Stornorrfors you can also see rock carvings and marvel over the post-glacial land uplift that is still ongoing in this part of the world. When the rock carvings were created the cliffs were situated by the sea. To see them you must cross the river via a road on the dam. A gravel road to your right leads down to the carvings. Also here your walking shoes will come in handy. For more information visit Ume Älvdal.
The cultural history museum Västerbotten’s Museum at Gammlia is located two kilometres from the the city centre. The museum houses permanent and temporary exhibitions displaying historical objects, works of art, photographs, films and more. Opening hours: Tuesday–Friday 10:00–17:00. Saturday-Sunday 11:00–17:00, Mondays Closed. Free Admission. Address: Helena Elisabeths väg 3, Umeå.
Bildmuseet is situated next to the Ume River approximately one kilometre from the city centre. Bildmuseet is one of Sweden’s leading venues for international contemporary art, a part of Umeå University and the public heart of its Arts campus. The exhibitions are produced in collaboration with artists, museums and universities worldwide, and often attract both national and international attention. Opening hours: Wednesday-Sunday 12:00-17:00 Monday-Tuesday Closed. Free Admission. Address: Östra strandgatan 30B, Umeå.
FRIDAY 20 JUNE
Swedish Midsummer’s Eve 11:00 – 15:00
If you’re staying in Umeå on Midsummer’s Eve you’re welcome to join us for a traditional Midsummer celebration with a maypole, folk music and games in the village of Norrmjöle situated on the coast about 21 km from Umeå.
Jan Olsson will be the guide for the day, leading a group ride to Norrmjöle from Umeå Scandic Plaza departing at 11:00. The group will return to Umeå in the early afternoon. If you would like more information about the midsummer celebration in Norrmjöle please send an email to Jan Olsson. Feel free to stay behind or leave before the guided group departs. Here is the route back to Hotel Plaza.
If you don’t want to cycle, there is also a bus connection to Norrmjöle from Umeå Vasaplan in the city centre. Buy bus tickets here. Choose Umeå Vasaplan – Norrmjöle Bygdegård, Umeå.
