Pâtisserie Laure’s Fika
Please visit the french pâtisserie Laure’s Fika next to Umeå Central Station for a coffee and a Soleil de minuit, our own adaptation of the famous pastry Paris–Brest. A Soleil de Minuit looks like the original but instead of the traditional hazelnut mousseline cream filling our Crème mousseline contains cloudberries, native to cool temperate regions such as Scandinavia. For our part this circular pastry not only represents a wheel but also the Midnight Sun!
Check your email when arriving to Umeå! You’ll receive a digital voucher for a coffee and a Soleil de minuit at Laure’s Fika during you stay in Umeå. Laure’s Fika has the following opening hours:
| Monday | 11:00 – 16:30 |

| Friday | 10:00 – 16:30 |
| Saturday | 10:00 – 16:00 |

Bike Wash
Wash your bike before you leave at Umeå Garage which is located at the west end of Kungsgatan, the pedestrian street in the city center. You will also find an air compressor bike pump here to pump your tires before the ride.

Sightseeing in and around Umeå
If you’re arriving to Umeå before the weekend or staying a few days after the event, you may find options for sightseeing and family excursions around Umeå on these sites: Visit Umeå, Västerbottens Museum, Bildmuseet.
If you want to explore the countryside around Umeå by bike and don’t mind a few kilometres on gravel roads, we recommend a visit to the dam at the Stornorrfors hydroelectric power station. Below the dam, you can see the fish ladder, and further dowmstream there is a viewing platform overlooking the rapids at the Salmon Jump. Bring your walking shoes!
On the other side of the river you can also see rock carvings and marvel over the post-glacial land uplift that is still ongoing in this part of the world. When the rock carvings were created around 4 000 years ago these cliffs were situated by the sea! To see the rock carvings you must cross the river via the road on the dam. From the dam, a gravel road leads down to the rock carvings. Also here walking shoes will come in handy. Visit Ume Älvdal for more information.
Get to the Storrnorrfors dam via the sightseeing route (see map above) or take the scenic route from Scandic Plaza which follows the north side of the Ume River. On both routes you’ll pass by Umeås oldest church, Backen Church, which has roots in the middle-ages. There has been a church on this site since the 13th century and a church built of stone since 1508. You’ll also pass a small suspension bridge which leads to Umeå Energy Centre on the south side of the river, where you’ll find Umeås first hydroelectric power plant built in 1899; now a museum. Here you’ll also find a café.
On the slope overlooking Arboretum Norr, you can visit Baggböle Manor, which was completed in 1846 as the manager’s residence for the Baggböle sawmill on the river below, whose foundations still remain and now house an art installation. The water-powered sawmill was built in 1819 and closed around 1897.

Along the southern shore of the Ume River and within view of downtown Umeå you’ll find the Böle Islands, a recreation area within walking distance of the city centre. Here you can also take a swim and sunbathe on a beach. From the northern shore, you can reach the Böle Islands via a suspension bridge.

In Umeå, the cultural history museum Västerbotten’s Museum is located at Gammlia, a recreation area and cultural heritage site, approximately two kilometres north east of the city centre (see map). The museum houses permanent and temporary exhibitions displaying historical objects, works of art, photographs, films and more. Opening hours: Tuesday–Friday 10:00–17:00. Saturday-Sunday 11:00–17:00, Mondays Closed. Free Admission. Address: Helena Elisabeths väg 3, Umeå.
The art museum Bildmuseet is situated next to the Ume River approximately one kilometre downstream from the city centre (see map). Bildmuseet is one of Sweden’s leading venues for international contemporary art, a part of Umeå University and the public heart of its Arts campus. The exhibitions are produced in collaboration with artists, museums and universities worldwide, and often attract both national and international attention. Opening hours: Wednesday-Sunday 12:00-17:00 Monday-Tuesday Closed. Free Admission. Address: Östra strandgatan 30B, Umeå.
